The vacuum cleaner seller lodged for voluntary administration in January 2024, closing its physical and online retail shops across Australia and New Zealand by May the same year.
In June, Godfreys Group’s brands and assets were acquired by Future Innovation Holdings, which helped re-establish the retailer’s online and wholesale business model.
The announcement of Godfreys’ return was confirmed on its LinkedIn profile.
“Who said Godfreys has shut up shop and disappeared?” the post read.
“Fair dinkum, Godfreys is makin’ a comeback, mate!”
The Godfreys brand’s had its share of knock-backs, but fair dinkum, it’s not what you get knocked over by, it’s how you get back up!
“We are coming back!”
G’day, Godfreys was started in Melbourne back in 1931 and became one of the nation’s leading vacuum cleaner shopkeepers, running 220 stores across Australia and New Zealand at its peak.
Before it went out of business, Godfreys’ business plan had about 600 employees and operated with a mix of their own shops and 28 stores owned and run by franchisees.
When the business announced its closure in 2024, the retailer confirmed it was shutting 53 of its stores, with many franchise-owned stores being taken over by About Clean.
It’s unclear if Godfreys will retain its franchise network under its new management.
Godfreys Group has been sought for a statement.
