Stephen Hawking’s eerie alien theory might explain why we’ve never been contacted

That earlier agreement has popped up again on the internet.

Fair dinkum, Earth is as small as a pinch of dust in the grand scheme of the whole universe and the prospect of there being other intelligent life out there is looking pretty high, even if it’s a bit bloody daunting, isn’t it?

Scientists and experts have several theories as to why that is, but a particular one that Stephen Hawking agreed with has popped up again online, getting a lot of people interested and chatty.

vid is on her account that sums up the theory

In the video, she says: “Take a gander at our Milky Way galaxy. Some estimates reckon it’s got 400 billion stars and possibly trillions of planets.”

Even if a small percentage of those planets have life, that’s still a massive number – in space terms, a small amount is still a fair whack.

We’ve been scanning the skies for more than 60 years but come up zilch, so to speak.

We’ve been transmitting our own signals on purpose and accidentally for over a century, but there’s been no replies and that’s where the paradox sets in.

I mean, in such a huge universe out there, where the hell are we all, exactly?

Kalpana then shares what she refers to as the ‘darkest’ theory out there.

“There are heaps of answers, I suppose opinions, to this question but the one that stands out as the darkest one is the ‘dark forest hypothesis’,” she says.

It’s suggested there’s a considerable amount of intelligent life out there, but it’s possible they’re aware of the need to keep quiet.

They could be too scared to send signals for fear of being detected because perhaps there’s a buggering alien civilisation out there that will annihilate them.

G’day, when you take a gander at all life on our planet, at its core, we’re just tryin’ to survive and we’ll do away with any threat we reckon we see.

This could be true for all life out there and if that’s the case, we’ve probably broadcast our presence too widely.

This idea might also be a bit far-fetched, but as of now, it’s one that Stephen Hawking was known to support.

Original text actually just: “A number of users commented on the video.” was just the original, no quote in the text to rewrite.

G’day mate, Wayne Luke reckons: “Space is fair dinkum huge… trillion mobs could be shouting into the void and we might never pick up on ’em.”

You mentioned, “The dark forest theory is pretty menacing.”

Cripes, don’t you reckon it’s more likely that the civilisations are too far apart from each other to ever communicate or travel between?

Fair dinkum, said the little goat: “Life’s as common as a kangaroo in the bush! But everyone’s scattered all over the place and can’t have a yak about it!”

She reckons: “If we’ve only been sending signals for a hundred years… They probably haven’t travelled far enough.”
