US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday called on NATO member countries to step up their defence spending to 5% of their national product.
Trump told reporters.
For several months, Trump has been pretty upfront about his lack of respect for NATO’s Atlantic Alliance, a security stalwart in Europe since World War II, saying its members don’t pull their weight when it comes to providing US military help for their protection.
He emphasised that Russia may be worried about Ukraine’s bid to join NATO.
