Home robot on wheels, PCs, and refrigerator: Samsung’s latest AI tech unveiled at CES

The CEO of South Korean electronics company Samsung emphasized its focus on using artificial intelligence in home appliances at a keynote presentation called ‘AI for All’ during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday.

The South Korean company stated that its domestic AI robot, a yellow, spherical device with wheels called Ballie, is set to become available in the first half of 2025, although the price was not disclosed.

Ballie was unveiled in 2020 and reintroduced in 2024 with AI capabilities and a camera. It can send video updates or display videos on the wall, play music, and answer calls.

Samsung highlighted how its appliances would seamlessly integrate at home to work in tandem. One illustration provided was that after styling your hair with a dryer, your smart home device would then prompt your vacuum to tidy up the subsequent mess automatically.

Other home devices include an AI refrigerator, which can detect what is inside and inform you what ingredients are missing if you wish to follow a recipe.

The specialized AI-enabled washer and dryer also feature a seven-inch screen, which allows users to play music or make phone calls.

Samsung also introduced new laptops, the Galaxy Book5 Pro and Book5 360, called AI PCs, which are equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors.

Separately, Euronews Next had a preview of the displays that Samsung’s business-to-business department is showcasing at CES, which included an expandable screen that showcased its capabilities in depth.

Visitors to the Samsung exhibit witnessed a display of robot dogs performing tricks, including backflips and dance moves, to demonstrate their robustness. In addition, a foldable screen and flexible displays with a paper-like texture were also showcased.

Samsung also demonstrated a so-called QD-OLED panel which it claims is 30 percent brighter at its peak compared to the QD-OLED panel it showcased last year.
