Harry Maguire scored on a miss of the season contender, as he failed to capitalize on a clear-cut opportunity at the end of Manchester United’s match against Liverpool.
The Red Devils outperformed many expectations under Ruben Amorim, with a well-deserved draw against Liverpool after 90 minutes.
The game regained momentum after the break following a rather subdued opening 45 minutes in a cold Merseyside atmosphere. Lisandro Martinez scored his first goal of the season, thanks to outstanding pressing from the Argentine.
The action was sparked when Bruno Fernandes started the sequence and then launched a shot past Alisson, who was stretching to make the save in the goal for the hosts. Despite this setback, Liverpool quickly fought back and got back in the game with a powerful strike from Cody Gakpo and a penalty kick scored by Mohamed Salah.
Amad Diallo scored against the momentum of the game to bring the score level once again and set up a nerve-wracking finish. Both teams had chances to win the game, but none was greater than Maguire’s at the end.
Manuel Ugarte sent the ball back into the Liverpool box, where it found Joshua Zirkzee with favorable positioning. The Dutchman then laid a pass for Harry Maguire, who found himself open inside the penalty area, but failed to control his shot effectively.
