6 Southeast Asian cities named among world’s 50 best food destinations: TasteAtlas

Delegates from Indonesia were included three, while Vietnam’s representation comprised two, and Singapore contributed one, in the forthcoming 2024–2025’s world food cities ranking done by renowned international magazine TasteAtlas.

Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city, holds the 16th position, scoring an average of 4.69 out of 5.

The magazine suggests trying must-try dishes such as Indonesian-style steamed rice cooked in coconut milk called nasi uduk, a mix of raw, boiled, or steamed vegetables with hard-boiled eggs known as gado-gado, chicken congee, or bubur ayam, and soto Betawi, a type of beef soup.

Singapore reached 22nd place on the list, with standout dishes including char kway teow (stir-fried rice noodle dish), Hainanese chicken rice, beef kway teow (flat rice noodles stir-fried and topped with slices of beef), cereal prawns (a popular dish featuring succulent prawns coated in a fragrant and crispy cereal mixture), and chili crab.

In addition to Jakarta, two other Indonesian cities, Bandung, ranked 32nd, and Surabaya, ranked 34th, also made the exclusive list.

Vietnam’s former imperial capital, Hue, ranks 35th.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, secured the 40th position with an average rating of 4.5/5.

The “Top 100 Cuisines in the World” is an annual ranking created by TasteAtlas, resulting from evaluations by international culinary critics, renowned chefs, and worldwide food enthusiasts.

This year’s list was based on 477,287 user votes from 17,073 cities, selecting the top-rated dishes among 15,478 local specialties.
