Dacia Sandero to overtake Tesla Model Y for title of best-selling car in Europe in 2024

The Dacia Sandero is expected to be the best-selling car in Europe in 2024, based on initial data encompassing 97% of sales in the European Union, the European Free Trade Association countries, and the United Kingdom.

The Tesla Model Y, the top-selling car of 2023, is the only electric vehicle in the rankings, but it has slipped to sixth place, with 181,781 units registered from January to November, a decline of 21%. The reason for the drop can be attributed to the ongoing electric vehicle market crisis.

November’s European sales registration data also showcases which car manufacturers had the most models in the Top 50 best-sellers. Volkswagen led with seven models- the Tiguan ranking second place, the Golf in fourth place, and the T-Roc in seventh place. Next was Skoda, another German brand from the group, with six models, including notably, the Octavia in 11th place, the Fabia in 25th place, and the Enyaq in 29th place.

In November, five Toyota models ranked in the Top 50, with the Yaris Cross in eighth place, the Yaris in ninth, and the Corolla in seventeenth. After 11 months, the Volkswagen Group and Toyota are tied for the top spot, each with six models ranking in the Top 50. They are followed by Skoda with five models, Peugeot with four, and Dacia with three.

Although the final ranking may change, narrowing the gap between the Sandero and the Golf in just a month will be challenging. In 2023, the Sandero ranked second behind the Tesla Model Y in terms of sales in Europe.
