Kenya’s President William Ruto has continued to advocate for former prime minister Raila Odinga’s candidacy for African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Ghana’s President John Mahama’s inauguration ceremony on January 7 provided a stage for Ruto’s announcement to lure two presidents into joining Raila.

The President of Togo, Faure Essozimna, has expressed his support for Raila’s candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the African Union.

“The President of Togo, Faure Essozimna, We met in Accra, Ghana before President John Mahama’s inauguration ceremony. He announced his support for Raila Odinga’s candidature as chairperson of the African Union Commission,” Ruto said on Twitter.

Ruto also confirmed Equatorial Guinea’s pledge to vote for Raila in the proposed African Union presidential slate for the 2025 elections.

“In Accra, Ghana, I met with Equatorial Guinea Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, who pledged his support for Hon. Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission chairperson candidacy,” Ruto stated in another tweet.
