Elon Musk has criticized NASA for prioritizing missions to the Moon over those to Mars.
Mars has long been a central aspiration for the leader of SpaceX, who aims to found a human settlement there within his own lifetime.
The world’s wealthiest individual has expressed disappointment with the American space organization’s attempt to establish a foothold on the Moon.
On December 25, he posted on X: “The Artemis program architecture is extremely inefficient since its purpose is to create jobs, not yield results. We need a radical new approach. Let’s go directly to Mars. The Moon is a sidetrack.”
Meanwhile, NASA intends to conduct additional Moon missions with the objective of establishing a permanent base in the years ahead.
